The Rannu congregation is the smallest in the EELC Valga Prostate. The number of donors in 2017 18, the number of those involved in baptism with the congregation may reach three hundred. The town of Rannu was built ten kilometers from the church during the Soviet era and there is no transportation from there. There are only a few farms around the church.
Rannu Parish is one of the oldest in Estonia. It is known that Rannus was an independent priest already in 1347. The present-day St. Martin’s Church dates back to the 15th century. This is evidenced by some of the details retained in the church’s chorus and longhouse, which at the same time confirm that the Rannu Church could have been one of the most outstanding Estonian churches at the time.
The church building has suffered many times over the years, for example, in 1627 only exterior walls were preserved. The archway was not restored when rebuilt, but the church hall was covered with a table top. Comprehensive extensions were performed in the church in 1835, when a 33-meter-high tower was built for the church. The teachings were also made during the Assmuth teacher in 1876.
